Heat Medium Package

Efficient Thermal Fluid Systems for Oil & Gas Applications

A Heat Medium Package is a self-contained thermal circulation system that uses a heat transfer medium—such as hot oil, thermal fluid, or glycol/water—to supply controlled heat to multiple process units. These packages provide indirect heating for utilities, heaters, skids, and other downstream equipment in upstream / midstream / downstream operations.

Thermal fluid systems offer several advantages over traditional steam or boiler-based heating:

High temperature capability with lower pressures, reducing boiler-related risks.
Precise temperature control and uniform heat distribution.
Closed-loop operation with low maintenance and long life.

Key Components of a Heat Medium Package include:

  • Heater or thermal fluid generator
  • Circulation pump(s) and auxiliary equipment
  • Flow and return piping network
  • Process interface heat exchangers or coils
  • Control panel and instrumentation

Major Equipment

  • Maintaining process temperatures for separation, dehydration or fractionation systems
  • Pre-heating fluids upstream of pumps or compressors
  • Heat tracing or maintaining temperatures in cold climates
  • Providing hot fluid for thermal energy circuits across a facility

When properly engineered, a Heat Medium Package ensures optimized resource usage, reduced downtime, and consistent heating performance in harsh environments.
