Natural Gas Liquids (NGL)

Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) Overview

Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) are valuable hydrocarbon components—such as ethane, propane, butane, isobutane, and natural gasoline (pentanes+)—that are separated from raw natural gas during processing. SPEC designs and supplies turnkey NGL recovery systems to optimize the extraction, stabilization, and fractionation of these liquids, maximizing recovery while ensuring process safety and energy efficiency.

Our NGL solutions are engineered for upstream and midstream operations, providing flexible configurations suited for a variety of feed compositions, pressure levels, and product specifications. Through our in-house engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) capabilities, SPEC delivers customized modular systems that integrate seamlessly with existing gas processing facilities.

Process Description

The NGL recovery process begins with gas cooling and condensation, where heavy hydrocarbons are separated from the gas stream. This is followed by de-ethanizing, de-propanizing, and de-butanizing, which isolate each component into pure, saleable products.

Depending on gas composition and desired recovery rates, SPEC applies either low-temperature separation (LTS) or cryogenic turbo-expander technology. These technologies enhance ethane and propane recovery efficiency while minimizing energy consumption.

To maintain product quality and plant reliability, SPEC’s NGL systems incorporate automated control, advanced heat integration, and safety interlocks, ensuring smooth operations even under variable field conditions.
