Pig Launchers and Receivers
Efficient Pipeline Maintenance and Flow Assurance
Pigging is a critical maintenance process in the oil and gas industry, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of pipelines. It helps remove deposits, water, and debris that could lead to corrosion, blockages, or reduced flow efficiency. By implementing regular pigging operations, operators can maintain system integrity, minimize pressure drops, and extend the service life of pipelines.
Properly designed Pig Launchers and Receivers also contribute to safer operations and optimized slug catcher sizing, leading to improved facility design and overall performance.
Pig Trap System
Barrel
The barrel is the main section of the pig trap — extending from the pig trap valve up to the end closure — and is responsible for launching and receiving pigs.
It consists of three main components:
Major Barrel – An enlarged section for loading or retrieving pigs
Reducer – Connects the major and minor barrels
Minor Barrel – Section between the pig trap valve and the reducer
The major barrel is equipped with a quick-open closure for efficient pig handling and minimal downtime.
Heater Components

Kicker Line
A kicker line connects the major barrel to the bypass line, enabling fluid diversion during pig launching or receiving. For launchers, the kicker line connects near the end closure, while for receivers, it connects closer to the reducer.

Bypass Line
The bypass line connects the main pipeline to the pig trap system, maintaining continuous operation during pigging activities.

Balance Line
The balance line allows equal pressurization on both sides of the pig before launching. This prevents unwanted pig movement, ensuring safe operation and avoiding damage to the pig trap valve or reducer.
